Meet our speakers!
Djamila Aouada is Research Scientist at the Interdisciplinary Centre for Security, Reliability, and Trust (SnT), at the University of Luxembourg. She received the State Engineering degree in electronics in June 2005, from the Ecole Nationale Polytechnique (ENP), Algiers, Algeria, and the Ph.D. degree in electrical engineering in May 2009 from North Carolina State University (NCSU), Raleigh, NC, USA. She has worked as consultant at Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL), Los Alamos, NM, at Alcatel-Lucent Bell Laboratories, Murray Hill, NJ, and at Mitsubishi Electric Research Laboratories (MERL), Cambridge, MA. Since November 2009, Dr. Aouada has been performing and supervising research, and leading the computer vision activities at the SnT, University of Luxembourg. Her research interests span the areas of signal and image processing, computer vision, pattern recognition and data modelling. Dr. Aouada is member of the IEEE Signal Processing Society and the Eta Kappa Nu honour society (HKN). She is currently serving as Chair of the IEEE Benelux Section Women in Engineering Affinity Group. She is co-author of two IEEE Best Paper Awards.
Lorna is going into her final year studying International Business in Ireland. She has been working in the Luxembourg Financial Sector as an Information Security Associate for the past 8 months. She has been involved in an experimental apprenticeship program of multi-modal on-the-job training combined with academic on-line courses to present a deep-dive into Information Security. This has been a natural fit, in part, because of her background working in Physical Security and Crowd Control (licensed as PSA). Always a passionate traveler, Lorna has lived in Copenhagen, visited as many places as possible during her stay in Luxembourg and is only returning to Ireland to finish her studies! Other passions include strange hobbies such as sports that involve bashing people with sticks or thrown objects (e.g. ‚hurling’ and ’rounders’) and scrap booking.
